Dendoncker pleased with key contribution

While pleased to net his first Premier League goal of the season, Leander Dendoncker took greater enjoyment with a crucial three points against West Ham United.

The Belgian met Joao Moutinho’s corner and beat David Martin to put the hosts in front. Then, Dendoncker helped his side to keep a clean sheet and watched Patrick Cutrone add to his goal to secure three points and a tenth match unbeaten in the Premier League.

On his goal and win

“I’m very happy, but even more happy for the win. I think that’s the most important, to try and keep taking points, because it’s tough, a lot of games.

“It’s always nice to score. It’s always better to score first than the opponent, if the opponent score you have to start chasing, pushing, pressing more, so it’s always better to score.

“Today was tough, West Ham are a very good side. As we played on Sunday, it was really difficult to keep going again, but the games keep going and it won’t stop, so it’s good for us.”

On the importance of the second goal

“When you’re up 1-0 you’re never sure of winning the game, so we wanted to keep trying and score the second goal to be more relaxed, and we managed to score a second and it was close to the end.”

On a busy December

“A lot of games, we have to go Sunday again, so we have to recover well. It was really important to win this home game because now we have an away game, a difficult away game again, so we’re very happy.

“There’s not a lot of days between the games, we have the Europa League as well which is really tough with the travelling, it’s so important to be able to start the game fresh.

“We have really professional staff, they keep pushing us to do well, which is really important. We just have to keep on doing that, because there are a lot of tough games coming.”
