Patricio: "It's a pleasure to be here"

Rui Patricio is relishing his first return to Portugal as a Wolves player, as the Europa League takes centre stage in Braga.

The goalkeeper is lauded in his home nation following his and Portugal’s success at Euro 2016 and spent many years competing against Braga in the Primeira Liga. On Thursday, he returns in Wolves colours, looking to secure qualification to the knockout stages of the Europa League, and is excited to be back on familiar soil.

On being back in Portugal

“Of course, it’s a pleasure for me to be here to play against Braga. I spent many years playing Portuguese football, I played several times in this stadium, and playing in Portugal is always special for me and all of my team mates that are Portuguese as well.”

On looking at the game

“There are no favourites for this match. It’s going to be a tough match between two excellent teams. There’s no doubt that we both want to win, we both want to be top of the group, we are in a positive moment, there’s no question about it.

“We’ve been working hard and will carry on with the same mentality, in the future we expect to work hard and maintain the positive performances we’ve had lately. We want to win the match and, of course, we want to carry on the positive momentum.”

On Braga’s qualities

“The Braga coach is an outstanding coach, the team is aggressive, they play with a collectiveness which is an example.

“We are ready for tomorrow, just like Braga are, we have studied them, we put in hard work to study the team of Braga. Both teams are highly-qualified, we’ll fight to win tomorrow and reach the top of the group.”

On Europa League ambitions

“We have ambitions in this competition and that’s a way to develop the club. Any competition we’re involved in, we want to win.”
