The men in old gold won three on the spin before the international weekend and were awarded the LMA Performance of the Week for their efforts in victory over Manchester City a fortnight ago. While keen to use the positive feeling from that win, Nuno is aware of the fresh test ahead against the Saints and expects his players to be up for the challenge.
On building on City win
“It was one of the good ones, but there’s still room for improvement, still trying to build and grow on the performance. It’s a new challenge, a new game against Southampton, it will be totally different, so we’ll have to find new solutions, stick with the tasks that we have.
“Of course, it gives you confidence, but at the same time there’s responsibility to go again and do as well as possible. All the games, in all competitions, are very tough. Southampton are a very good team with a very good manager, we’ve seen, we’ve analysed, and on Saturday it’s going to be a tough challenge.”
On Southampton’s challenge
“They’re a very good team. They have good players that are fast and organised, it’s going to be very tough. I don’t look at the table, Southampton are a very good team and we expect a tough challenge, but we play at Molineux, it’s good to be back at Molineux, we want to perform and compete.”
On the international break
“It was planned, we know international breaks come, what we have to do is prepare well. Some of us stayed here and worked really hard, for those that went with their national teams it is always a moment of pride for the club to have players representing their countries.
“We always hope they return healthy and then we have a couple of days to prepare for the game, this is what we do and the way we plan. There’s going to be another international break (in November), the schedule is made and it’s going to be tough.”
On the Premier League changing
“It’s evolving. We’ve seen how hard it is, teams are very competitive, but we see different approaches and it’s changing. We don’t see only the opponent we’re going to face, we try to take a big picture of what’s happening.”
