Scoring breeds confidence, says Jota

Diogo Jota insisted scoring goals breeds confidence, both for him and the team, after he helped Wolves into the Premier League Asia Trophy final.

The forward netted two first-half goals against Newcastle United, in the first match of Wolves’ Asia Tour. Jota looked typically sharp and was pleased his goals were able to contribute to a confidence-boosting 4-0 victory ahead of an early start to the season.

On his two goals

“Scoring goals always gives you an extra boost in terms of confidence and you have to take advantage of that and keep working hard to be 100 percent for the first match.

“For the second goal I tried to react fast to the loss of the ball. Fortunately, I scored and it was good for me and the team that we were able to make it 3-0 very soon.”

On the conditions

“We knew that they were hard conditions, but we tried to do our best because we have an official match next week.

“We have to prepare ourselves and I think we did it well. The goals, of course, helped the team feel confident, to realise that we are working well.

“That was the hardest games, in terms of humidity, I’ve had. It’s hard to play in those conditions, with an intensity to the game, but we have to play whatever the conditions.”

On the Asia Trophy final

“In the end it’s always about performance, but if you can win, everyone would choose to win. We’ll go there to win the match, but the main thing is to get ready for the official match.”

On playing with Gibbs-White

“It was different, Raul plays in a different style, Morgan isn’t as strong as Raul is, but we linked together very well and tried to do the best we can.”
