The former England goalkeeper has been a constant presence between the sticks in the competition this season for a Wolves side which has beaten both Liverpool and Manchester United for the chance to play Watford at Wembley on Sunday 7th April.
The 32-year-old, who believes the key to the team’s success during the past two seasons has been the solidity of the defenders in front of him, is looking forward to the national stadium being full of Wolves supporters.
On reaching the semi-finals
“I’m delighted. It’s an indication of how far we’ve come, it’s a continuation of what we’ve done in the league and what we’ve already done in this cup run.
“We were solid, organised, committed, disciplined; all the things that we’ve built our whole squad on and it’s really pleasing to see, and really pleasing to get to the semi-final.
“We’ve always got the quality to hurt teams, we’ve shown that throughout the season, even last year as well – although I know it’s a different league – but we still had the same ethos, the same rules and the same base we build our squad on, it’s all there.”
On quarter-final game plan
“We had to weather the storm a bit in the first-half, but I thought we were organised and disciplined, and that stood us in good stead for the second-half, so when we got the chances we were able to punish them.
“Obviously, we are disappointed to concede the goal, but you’d take that to be in a semi-final.”
On limiting Man United’s chances
“It’s the same that it has been, certainly the games I’ve played in this year, we’ve been excellently well organised, we’ve looked very solid and very hard to beat.
“That’s what we build ourselves on and pride ourselves on; defending well and limiting the other team to very few chances like we did against United.
“If we do that, we have the quality to go and get the result.”
On playing at Wembley
“It will be great. We’ve got good memories this season already from the Tottenham game, but it will be a special atmosphere having half the stadium of Wolves fans, which is something you don’t realise how special it is until you get out onto the pitch.
“We look forward to the game as it will be a great atmosphere for all of us. We’ve got a couple of days off and then we’ll be back to the hard work to make sure we’re building and progressing every day.”
