Afobe spent two separate spells up front for Wolves and made special friendships with Conor Coady and, particularly, Matt Doherty, who dedicated his goal on Sunday to the Afobe family. Wolves wore black armbands during the game and Coady summed up an emotional afternoon post-match.
On Afobe’s tragic news
“I’ll be honest, Benik was a big part of this club when he was here. He’s a great friend to everybody and it’s so upsetting what’s happened – Doc’s his best mate, Doc spends a lot of time with him.
“For anybody to go through what Benik’s going through is so sad. We’re thinking of him every single day, as a club and players, everyone in our changing room, and the supporters who were singing his name.
“We’re behind him all the way because, we don’t understand what he’s going through, but feel his pain.”
On getting the draw
“We 100 per cent deserved to take something from the game. We started off slowly which was disappointing from our point of view, conceding so early – we’re not used to doing that.
“I thought we came back into it and dominated spells. It was two good teams playing football, they’re really good as well, I thought it was a great game of football.
“Second-half we dominated, we had the ball, we beat the press – something that we’re really good at.”
On the character to keep on going
“We’ll never lose that character, it’s something we’ve always had. We’ll always dig in until the last minute, it doesn’t matter how many games we play. We kept on going and could have nicked it at the end.
“We’re proud of what we’ve doing at the minute, we’re playing a lot of games. We came back from Braga on Thursday and went into a tough game on Sunday, it’s another point and we move forward.”
On a run of home games
“It’s huge (to be back). We’ve played a lot of away games recently, but we love playing here, in front of our own supporters. They drive us on, they push us as much as possible.
“It’s a fantastic place to play football, so it’s important, but we need to make sure we’re ready. The games are coming thick and fast, we’ll make sure we recover right and go again.”
