Nuno not looking past Huddersfield test

Nuno Espirito Santo insists his Wolves side are solely focused on Sunday afternoon’s clash with Huddersfield and are continuing to take every Premier League match as it comes.

The head coach has also dismissed media speculation which alleged his team are aiming for a spot among the top six clubs in the league this season.

“The expectations outside don’t mean anything at all to us,” Nuno said. “What’s important is how the group, the players, how we determine our objectives, and our objectives are game-by-game. We want to achieve better performances each time, improve the team and improve the players.

“What is important is how you work and how you prepare for the next game. We look at each game at a time, and Sunday is the most important.

“My only objective is Sunday, I don’t think much further than that. We’ll see how we finish after.”

The Sky Sports cameras will be back at Molineux this Sunday as Wolves face Huddersfield at 4pm, and Nuno is adamant his preparation will remain the same, despite the side heading into the tie without a win in the past four matches.

Nuno said: “We don’t change the dynamic. The routine is the same, the high level of preparation is what determines how we arrive to the game. All the opponents are difficult, all the games in the Premier League are a big challenge for us, so it will be the same interpretation as always.

“Huddersfield are a good team, I think they have improved. Their last performance and result was good. We know how hard it’s going to be because they have their own idea, their own shape.

“We will have to analyse how we prepare the players. We have one more day to train and we know it’s going to be a big challenge for us.

“But we are at home and we want to make our ideas stronger on the pitch, play well, achieve a good performance and try.”

Wolves will be without Jonny Castro Otto for the first time this season, after the Spaniard was injured while on international duty earlier this week.

And after confirming the wing-back will miss the next six weeks of the season, Nuno will be hoping to keep his players as fit as possible heading into a busy festive period.

“We speak a lot with all the coaching staff of the national teams,” Nuno added. “We want to know how they work there, to try and mix and balance better, and make sure the player is fit for both national teams and ourselves.

“Unfortunately, we have this case with Jonny. Let’s hope it doesn’t happen again, because it’s really hard when you lose a player, and when you lose a player while they’re with their national team it’s even harder.

“But now we have a long period without national teams and we have to focus only on ourselves.”
