International duty the biggest honour, says Nuno

Nuno Espirito Santo believes the number of international call ups his squad have received this October is a reflection of the positive work going on at Wolves.

Ten of Nuno’s players signed off from Wolves with a win on Saturday and have now joined up with their national teams ahead of this weekend’s international games.

Jonny Otto and Helder Costa have been rewarded for their fine Wolves form with first senior call ups and Nuno is delighted for every one of his players departing for national duty.

“Playing for your country is the biggest honour a player can have so we are delighted,” he said. “International call ups represent the quality and the way the players work.

“The players who go away should enjoy it and be with their national teams, playing some good football. A lot of players are going away.

“When they go we want them to stay healthy. They train and compete well so when they arrive back they are stronger and better.”

The remainder of Nuno’s squad will continue to put in the hard work at Compton, with the head coach hoping even more will be rewarded with call ups in November.

“This time some of the players went on international duty, the ones that were not must work harder and improve so they become an option for the national coaches.

“The break is scheduled, we anticipated all the situations and are delighted that the players are going, but at the same time we’ll stay here and work very hard with the players here.

“When they come back we are working on other aspects of the squad, the next goal is to compete against Watford at home.”
