Most of the 28,500 crowd inside Molineux were still stunned at what they had witnessed long after Neves' 30-yard shot had hit the net, and the Portuguese midfielder admitted that - despite being able to command a goal of the season competition all of his own - the wonder strike was his best of the campaign.
"I think it's my best," he said afterwards. "My first touch was not good - it was poor control because the ball went behind me and if I had lost possession there it would have been dangerous for the team.
"I had to take a risk and went for the shot. As soon as I hit it, I knew it was a very good effort, and fortunately the ball went in. I know that shooting from distance is one of my best qualities, so I have to do it - we train and we practice to do these kind of things.
"Afterwards I heard the fans telling me to shoot when I had the ball in the middle of the pitch, but it's impossible from there so I just chose to pass it!"
The unstoppable volley put Wolves 2-0 up following Diogo Jota's early breakthrough, and Nuno's side never looked in serious danger of relinquishing that advantage as they closed out the game to move closer to their ultimate goal of promotion.
A return to the Premier League could be sealed this weekend - nearest challengers Fulham play on Saturday, while Wolves host Midlands rivals Birmingham on Sunday.
Of the position Wolves are now in, and the mood among the squad, Neves said: "Of course I am pleased with my goal tonight but the most important thing was the win.
"We controlled the game and we deserved the win. We were compact in defence and I don't think we really gave them any chances to score. It's a win, but we still haven't achieved our goal.
"We want something bigger, we have a lot of work still to do, and now we have a few days to rest and prepare for Sunday. We can only think about that game, because it's a derby and we need to prepare correctly.
"We've had our goal since the start of the season, and now we are really close to that. We will put the hard work in and look to get the win against Birmingham. We want to do it for these fantastic fans who deserve a lot."
