The Team Is More Important

Diogo Jota is delighted with the start to his Wolves career but admits that the priority is the team.

Jota has scored seven goals so far this season for Wolves since joining from Athletico Madrid in the summer.

Wolves travel to 17th-placed Queens Park Rangers on Saturday in the Sky Bet Championship.

The 20-year-old says that Wolves’ good form so far this season has come from the players believing in the philosophy of Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

“The most important thing for a player is to believe and believe in the manager’s idea,” he said.

“If you believe, you are happy and if you keep winning you feel in a good way and you feel nice.

“When I score, people of course notice me but I know that we have to win - if we don’t win then it doesn’t matter.

“I have narrow thoughts - I know that if I score, it is better for us but if I pass for someone to score then it will be really nice too.

“The team is more important, that is the feeling that everyone has here. With that thought, we are closer to the win.

“Everyone helps the team in their tasks - Tuesday’s game shows that, everyone helping each other.

“I think we are playing as a team, as a family, as a pack and that is helping everyone."

Jota isn’t getting carried away despite Wolves being top of the Championship after 13 games with that being the message from Nuno.

He says that there is a long way to go and that the players are taking still only focussing on their next game.

He continued, “If we win we are happy but we know that we have to keep going - it’s a long season and if we stop here then nothing that we have done so far will matter. We have to keep going.

“I don’t think it’s easier to play away from home, maybe the teams that are playing on their own pitch want to play more of the football.

“It’s not like that they are at our home defending all the way through the game, they maybe aren’t happy with the draw.

“They might put in extra effort to win the game - when the other team wants to win, it’s better for us and it’s better for the game.

"It’s not a total surprise that I have started well but I didn’t expect to start so well this season.

“The way that the team is playing, this is helping my game - the most important thing is for us to keep going and to keep winning.”
