After picking up an injury during pre-season, Marshall played his first league action of the campaign against Millwall on Saturday, completing an hour as Wolves won 1-0 to make it 13 points from their first six fixtures.
The 26-year-old said the team are gelling well under Nuno Espírito Santo, as they prepare for another home game tonight with Bristol City the visitors to Molineux (7.45pm).
“It has been a good start for us so far but we know that teams may come and try and stop us playing,” says Marshall.
“It is up to us to try and solve that.
“As players you need to enjoy the pressure and expectation that good results bring – if you don’t then you will find things dropping away.
“We need to be confident, and that confidence comes with playing well and winning football matches.
“You sometimes need that little bit of arrogance as a team going into matches, and we are starting to get that as well.
“We know this is going to be a big test of us through the season but I am sure we are capable of getting through it.
“The long-term goal is for us to get up but we know there is a long battle ahead and we can’t just jump to the end of the season.
“We have to prepare properly for every single game and take it one step at a time and then hopefully we can keep getting the results.”
Marshall acknowledges there have been major changes in personnel among the staff and playing staff since the end of last season, and that early impressions have been very positive.
“The club has changed massively,” he says.
“The new coach has come in and brought his own staff in and his own way.
“There is a good feeling around the club – we have just got to keep believing, listening to the gaffer and the staff, and putting in the performances.
“We are all quite close, and winning football games gives you that feeling.
“There is a good bunch here – the new lads are also a good set of lads and their quality is showing on the pitch.
“Winning games in the way we have is giving us confidence.
“We have got a way of playing which we are sticking to - we have been doing it throughout pre season and it is drummed in our heads.
“It seems to be clicking and hopefully we can carry it on and the more games we win the more confident we will get.”
For Marshall himself, he feels good to be back in the fray and involved in the intense scrap for a place in the starting eleven.
His versatility may help in that respect, with the team also like to go through different changes given the ever-hectic Sky Bet Championship schedule.
“It was good to get 60 minutes under my belt on Saturday,” he says.
“It felt alright but I still think there is improvement there.
“Injuries happen in football even though I had finished last season well and managed to get a few assists.
“I just needed to get back fit and get back out on the pitch.
“As long as I am out there I am not fussed where I play.
“I feel confident in a few positions which is good.
“The main thing now is getting back to full match fitness, playing games and building on that.
“There is a good squad with good competition here now and it is down to the lads to hold onto their spot when they start.
“There will be chopping and changing with the games Saturday/Tuesday/Saturday/Tuesday.
“We need a squad where if you don’t play you still keep your head up and keep going and we have got that here.”
