Douglas Setting The Standard

Barry Douglas believes today’s final pre-season friendly win against the Premier League’s Leicester City offered a flavour of what Wolves are aiming for this season.

A bright and positive performance was capped by Ivan Cavaleiro’s stunning second half strike, teed up after a powerful run and pass from Diogo Jota.

Douglas, who received the Sponsors’ Man of the Match award following his own impressive display at left wing back, is not carried away, but remains positive about what lies ahead.

"I think there are a lot of positives we can take from that game,” he said.

"If you look at the way we did play football it clicked today.

“We played some lovely football and that is how we want to play this season.

“We are all buying into the way the gaffer wants us to play and we are being encouraged to get on the ball and be brave.

“That suits the squad that we have got and the calibre of players that we have now.

"We know we're going to make mistakes but that's football.

"The gaffer wants us to get at teams and Leicester are no mugs, so there are a lot of positives.

"This is another step in the right direction, and hopefully we're ready for next Saturday.

"We've got another week to prepare, we'll look at this game and keep doing what we've been doing.

“It is a long season for us and we need to be ready for the first game next weekend and take it from there.”

The Scottish full back appears to have settled effortlessly into life at Molineux, and offered a solidity in defence matched by a desire to get forward in the 1-0 victory.

“I feel I have adapted well,” he explained.

“There is a great bunch of guys here and a lot of new players so I am not the only one in that situation.

“We have got a tight group so it’s all positive in that respect.

“This is a new adventure for me now and I’m looking forward to getting going.

“Coming to a big club like Wolves was a big thing for me and the Championship is a good league.

“This is a chance for me to really challenge myself and see how I do down here.

“Hopefully I can reach my personal targets and kick on from here.”
