Ronan impressed in six first team appearance last season before being forced to sit out the final two months of the season with a back injury.
Since returning for pre-season, the 19-year-old has featured in every friendly so far - in centre midfield and in a more attacking role.
He says that he is determined to cement a first team place this season and if that means playing in a more unfamiliar role, he is happy to do it.
“I’ve been playing more in front of the midfield two but against Peterborough I was back in centre midfield where I probably prefer to play,” Ronan began.
“If it’s the first team, I’m happy to play anywhere - I’m just happy to help the team.
“Coming in to pre-season, I was just focussed on playing in centre midfield because I didn't know what formation we would be playing, the system that we’re now playing allows me to play in a couple of positions.
“If he needs me to play in centre midfield, I can play there and if he needs me to play a bit more forwards, I think I can do that as well.
“I think having the off-season helped a little bit as it gave me a little bit more time than I actually needed to get back so nothing was rushed.
“I’m as good as new now, I’m perfect, I’m feeling good on the pitch, I’m feeling fit and feeling sharp - I just can't wait for the season to start and get going.
“We all know that what happened against Shrewsbury, wasn't what we’d been doing in training and it wasn't what we’d been working on either.
“I think we needed to put that right against Peterborough and we were focussed on doing that - the lads knew what they had to do and I think we did it quite well particularly in the second half and created a lot more chances.
“It’s just about getting that fitness in and the manager’s ideas will start to come.
“It’s always good to get a win even if pre-season is just about the lads getting minutes and getting that match fitness up
“We’ll now try and take that into Saturday and then take that into the season.
After making first team appearances last season, Ronan admits that this could be a big season for him.
Heading into Saturday’s final pre-season friendly against Leicester City, he says it’s all moved very quickly.
“I’ve done a few seasons now with the first team and then in the season, I’ve kind of faded away or ended up back with the ‘18s or ‘23s.
“This is my first season after getting a few games - it’s a big one. I’m hoping to get as many games as possible and try and work my way into the team.
“Last season I was just playing under 23s football and then got a few first team games.
“In pre-season we’ve played a lot bigger teams this year and then going on to play a team that’s won the Premier League in Leicester City will be massive.
