In the first friendly since returning from their pre-season tour of Austria, goals from Alex Rodman and Carlton Morris saw the Shrews win at Greenhous Meadow.
Bennett admits it was disappointing to lose the game but he says that there is still time for things to come together before the start of the season.
The 27 year old said, “It was a good workout, obviously it’s the first time we’ve played back in England.
“Being away, we had a good camp in Austria but it’s nice to get back playing in England but we’ve done a lot of travelling, we trained again before the game so it has been tough.
“We’re where we want to be at this point in time, there's still things to work on, everybody knows that, we know that.
“We just need to go again, we’ll get back to the training ground and we’ll keep working.
“Hopefully well put that right and showed the right spirit and put that right between now and the end of pre-season going into the first game.
“You do want to pick up results - we had the first two good results out in Austria and it brings confidence even in the early stages of pre-season.
“It is something that you want to do and everyone is disappointed in the changing room, losing 2-0 to Shrewsbury.
“We need to go and work harder - we’ll go to the training pitch and put things right, we’ll go and work on the principles that we want to maintain this season and it will all be fine.
“It’s a work in progress, we’re still working every day with patterns of play and things like that but people will see that coming out in our play over the next few weeks.
“We just need to stay positive and get what we need from these games fitness-wise and then we can push on.
“I think a lot of teams are going to go with the way are playing this year - you’ve seen the likes of Huddersfield last year and it was so successful for them.
“You know it works, it’s about trusting this manager, his ideas are brilliant, his training’s really good.
“It’s going to take a little bit of time and work as hard as we can in training and we’ll get there in no time.”
Bennett signed for Wolves on a three year deal following being released by Norwich City.
He says that sometimes it can be difficult when signing for a new club, but in this instance, he has been made to feel really welcome.
“The lads have been first class with me so it’s made it really easy to be honest.
“You can go to some places and find it hard to settle in but the lads here have been top notch and they’ve made everyone welcome - staff and players included.
“Ten days away was obviously nice to get away and to get to know everyone individually and a bit more personally but the lads are top class and have been from day one."
Wolves' next fixture is against Peterborough United at the Abax Stadium on Tuesday 25th July.
Looking ahead to the penultimate pre-season game, Bennett says that the players will be working as hard as they can to be ready for the start of the season.
“The season’s very close now - we’ve got two more games, it’s less than a week and we’re into the season really.
“We need to go again, we’ll be on the training pitch working, working and working.
“We’ve got the two games where we’ll put what we’ve been working on into practice and we’ll be ready for the first game of the season.”
