We Were Fantastic

Conor Coady was full of praise for his team mates as Wolves began their pre-season tour of Austria in impressive style as they beat German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen 1-0 in Zell am Ziller.

In a picturesque setting, Nouha Dicko’s second half strike was all that separated the two sides in what was a positive start to Nuno Espirito Santo’s reign as Head Coach.

Wolves played a back three in defence - the versatile Coady played at the centre of the three for the duration of the game.

The 24 year old says that the players have taken on board what the coach has been trying to implement - he believes that his tactics were executed well in the win over Bremen.

Speaking to Wolves TV, he began, “I thought we were fantastic to be honest, it’s a new formation and it’s a new way of playing for us - the gaffer’s been working on it for a couple of weeks now and you can tell that the boys have been listening and trying to improve.

“I thought for the first game playing that way, we were fantastic against some really good opposition.

“It’s nice to get 90 minutes, it’s nice to finish the game and have that in the bank and under your belt.

“For me, it was just about improving and helping the boys in that back three position and ultimately getting the win.

“I really enjoyed it, it’s something that I’ve been working on for the last few weeks now since the manager came in - I’ve been listening to him and trying to improve by listening to him.

“It’s a system which I can organise whilst I’m in there, I like talking while I’m on the pitch and trying to help the boys as much as possible, and I can do that while I’m there.”

Coady played alongside Danny Batth and Willy Boly during the opening 45 minutes, and then with Ryan Bennett and Roderick Miranda in the second half.

When asked whether it was a challenge to adapt to playing with four different players during the same game, he replied, “All four of them are very, very good players and they fit into the system really well.

“I enjoyed playing with every single one of them. Whoever I was alongside, I’m sure they'd say the same, it’s something we want to get better at and improve - we want to build on this win and performance.

“It’s massive for us - the manager did say before that game that it wasn't about the result, it was about improving in the formation that he’s trying to set and taking on his ideas.

“We got a win, I thought the goal was fantastic - Nouha (Dicko) was excellent when he came on, he ran the channels and he worked hard.

“We want to be improving but getting that winning mentality at the same time.

“I love being in Austria - it’s a change of scenery, it’s a change from Compton Park and these three games are huge for us.

“It’s been hot, we’ve been sweating loads - nothing beats playing games to get you fit, nothing beats it and the boys will say the same.

“We just want to keep improving and listening to the manager every single day.”
