It’s A Happy Camp

Danny Batth says the current mood around the squad is positive as he believes the players are buying into the ideas of Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

Nuno has now been working with the players for just over two weeks - Wolves played their first game under the coach on Wednesday, a 1-0 win over German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.

Batth says that although things are feeling positive, there is still lots of work to be done.

“It’s a happy camp at the moment - we’re all working hard obviously twice a day,” he said, and continued, “there will be no let up in that - at this stage in pre-season you’ve just got to push yourself.

“All the staff behind the scenes are keeping track of what we’re doing - hopefully it will stand us all in good stead and make sure that we’re on top form when the season comes around.

“There were a lot of positives that we can take from the game.

“We’ve been working with the new coach for a few weeks now - we’ve tried to take on his ideas and implement them in the game against Werder Bremen.

“That was the prep talk- of course the result in pre-season is always secondary but to come away with a result as well is an added bonus.

“The fans who made the trip for the game will have seen a lot of positives.

“It was a friendly for the boys, it’s good experience to come up against a European club and it wasn't too long ago that they were in the Champions League.

“It was a good test for us, a good result but most importantly I thought our adaptation to the new system was really good.”

Since the end of last season, Wolves have signed eight new players as well as making a wide range of changes to the coaching staff.

Batth, who came through the club’s academy, believes that the club’s current pre-season tour is a perfect opportunity everyone to get to know each other.

The 26 year old said, “Everyone’s getting along really well, obviously it’s a bedding in process - that’s what trips like this are for, they're for high pressure training but also about getting to know each other as people and as players.

“We're getting along really well and players like myself who have been here for quite a long time can help the new boys fit in.

“As we play more games, the onus will change from fitness towards results and that tends to happen as you go on in pre-season.

“As long as we get the idea of what the manager wants to do and how we're going to play - if we continues with that and get the results along the way then we will be in a good place for the start of the season."
