Paul Lambert says Wolves will not change styles between home and away as they seek to transfer their results on the road back to Molineux between now and the end of the season.
Wolves have taken 27 points on their travels, in contrast to 18 at home, and have six of their final nine games on home soil as they look to cement their Sky Bet Championship status.
The first of those today is against Cardiff City (3pm), with Lambert again sending the team out with attacking intent.
“If you have any aspirations to get out of the league then your home form is where you need to pick up most of your points,” says the Head Coach.
“I don’t know why we have had the problems we have had at home because it is a great place to play football.
“That is something we have to rectify both now and for next season because if we can do that, then we can be in the mix.
“I have never changed my mantra since I have been here.
“I have never set my stall out to be defensive – I will always go out and try and win.
“I don’t think about playing any different at home or away.
“I always think we want to try and get on the front foot and tried to win games.
“Maybe teams have come here and sat in and if that happens we have to try and unlock it.
“It is credit to us that teams are sitting back, but the other side of that is that we need to break them down.
“I have never set my stall out to be defensive – I will always go out and try and win.
“The offensive players here are really good.
“It is perhaps evident we need a goalscorer and if we had someone who had scored 10 to 15 goals this season we wouldn’t be in this position.
“You have to score when you have dominance in games and we have done that over the last few games.
“Cavaleiro coming back has been a plus for us as well because he is a threat and can make things happen.
“Costa looks back to his best and Marshall, Weimann and Dicko have done well and Bodvarsson played really well against Ireland for Iceland.
“So in terms of our attacking players we are looking pretty strong and I will always give the front lads the freedom to go and play.”
Lambert is hopeful the break will have done Wolves some good and that they can pick up from where they left off prior to the international programme with victories against Rotherham, Brentford and Fulham.
But he knows today poses a tough test against a Bluebirds side who have climbed the table under Neil Warnock.
“It will be a tough game and a physical game,” he says.
“We know the ball will come into our box at any moment and I think they are the top of the table for set piece goals in the division – we have to be ready for that and defend strongly in that respect.
“But we also have to concentrate on what we can do and carry on playing the way we are playing and believing in what we are doing.
“The Championship requires players to be robust with the Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday fixtures.
“The form we were in over the last four games was good and I don’t think the break will have hindered us at all.
“We get in, get back to work, and look to get going again.
“We want to continue what we have been doing and play as well as we can.
“If we can win this one it will be another big result.”
Wolves have a doubt over Carl Ikeme (hamstring), and Joe Mason is not yet back in full training.
Silvio, Michal Zyro and Jordan Graham are back in training and are being aimed at possible behind-closed-doors friendly action to step up their comebacks.
Lambert meanwhile has thanked supporters who have stepped up to buy their ‘Early Bird’ Season Tickets for next season, with over 11,500 now having already committed to the 2017/18 campaign.
“I think it is great to see how many people have bought their tickets,” says the Head Coach.
“And it is a thanks for that support – it is massive home and away and should never be underestimated.
“It was great at Fulham and the cup games as well and it shows the potential that is there.
“We have to try our best to create things and make it exciting and we know the fans will get behind us.
“We understand fans are not happy when you don’t do well but we know that if we do play well and get things going it is a fantastic place to play.
“Hopefully that Season Ticket number keeps climbing and it is up to us to show, going forward, that it can be exciting time.”
