Conor Coady is confident Wolves new boys are ready to ‘light up the league’ as the team return to action against Burton tomorrow (3pm).
Wolves have made 12 senior signings over the summer – four of whom are available for the first time tomorrow – and Coady has seen enough in training to suggest that they will bring plenty of flair and quality once they are fully settled and adapted to the Sky Bet Championship.
“The gaffer and the staff have created a good atmosphere here – we have had a good week’s training, are looking sharp and raring to go for Saturday,” says Coady.
“Some good players have come in and some of the skills of the new signings are ridiculous.
“We were doing some possession stuff the other day and the pace of it was something else, and the new boys have helped make it like that.
“They are very good players and we have to step up to that level as well, and for us, that is fantastic moving forward.
“We need quality players and hopefully these boys will help push us up the league.
“I think they are going to light up the league and get fans off their seats and we are excited to see them play as I am sure the fans are.
“Looking at the squad on the training pitch we are strong in a lot of areas – we need players who are fresh every game and it looks like we will have that.
“It is a tough fixture list in a very tough league and we need to keep the momentum going in these next batch of games."
Coady himself certainly seems to be enjoying life under Walter Zenga.
“I am loving it,” he says.
“The gaffer has helped all the boys – he talks to everyone, and we are learning a lot on and off the pitch.
“His attention to detail is fantastic – he has told me what he wants from me whatever position I am in.
“And we go into every game with a plan of how we want to play and how we can try and counteract the opposition.
“I have always enjoyed being here, and love being a part of what the club wants to do going forward.
“This is a massive club, and one where fans demand hard work and demand we win games.
“It is up to us to live up to any raised expectations, and go into games with a really positive mentality.
“We need the crowds to be fantastic as they have been so far this season.
“The Reading and Birmingham games will stick in my mind for a very long time, and all that came from the crowds.
“We need to do that every single week.”
And this week will see Wolves welcome Burton tomorrow and then Barnsley on Tuesday (7.45pm), aiming to collect points and climb the table.
As ever, the games will be tough, and Coady is ready for that sort of test against a Brewers team managed by Nigel Clough, whom he played for at Sheffield United.
“We have got to be wary of the teams we are playing against,” he explains.
“Both made very good starts to the season.
“We have concentrated on Burton a lot – they were brilliant against Derby which is a game we watched on television.
“We have looked at what they are good at and we are here to counteract that
“I worked with Nigel Clough at Sheffield United and he helped me massively.
“I was only a young boy at the time and he played me a lot and that was fantastic for my development.
“But all I am concentrating on tomorrow is trying to help Wolves get the win.”
And one player whom Coady is looking forward to seeing back in Wolves colours, if selected, is the returned Richard Stearman.
The popular defender is available for a second Molineux debut to try and add to his 235 appearances made during his first, seven-year stint with Wolves.
“It was fantastic news for everyone to see Stears back,” says Coady.
“It is good to have that experienced head within the camp.
“He talks to the lads, dictates, and organises.
“He has had lots of years in the Championship and knows this club inside out.
“He is a fantastic professional and person and we are very excited to see him back and hopefully helping the team move forward.”
