Batth Looks to Rotherham

Danny Batth speaks ahead of Wolves' first game of the 2016/17 campaign away at Rotherham United on Saturday afternoon.

And after a week with the new Head Coach, Batth is looking forward to implementing Walter Zenga's ideas.

He said: “We’re very excited and looking forward to getting it under way at Rotherham.

“The gaffer has been asking the players to learn and learn quickly, which is what we want to do.

“We want to put as many ideas the new manager has brought to us into play.

“The changes haven’t been massive, just little tweaks here and there. We’ll adapt to that. It’s important we’re all ready for Saturday."

The 25-year-old scored in last season's trip to the AESSEAL New York Stadium as Wolves ran out 2-1 winners.

“It’d be nice to get another goal," said the captain.

"Rotherham always seems to be a bit of a cracker. Hopefully it goes in our favour.

“I think the fans will be quick to get behind us.

“I’m sure they understand it’ll take a bit of time to settle down and obviously we hope the results come immediately, that’s our priority, that’s what we’re all here to do.

“We want to make sure we come away with the points and they’ve got something to get behind.”

Helder Costa, Joao Teixeira and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson have all been added to the squad over the last fortnight and the skipper believes they have settled in quickly at Compton Park.

“They all look physically fit, they look strong, they look bright and hungry," explained Batth.

“That’s what we need.

“They’ve been great, really good in training, working hard.

“It feels like they’ve been here longer than four days, it really does."

Silvio Sa Pererira also joined the squad at Compton Park and, as an experienced full back, will likely be lining up alongside Batth.

“He’s got a wealth of experience and he’s a good guy," said the skipper before adding: "He dresses well! He’s upped the standards in the dressing room.

“He’s very composed and with that experience and confidence comes a more composed player.

“We’ve been working on different ideas and making sure we’re all together in the same direction, that’s the main thing.

“It’ll be a tough first game, we’re not expecting an easy game.

“Once everything settles down we can get our focus on what really matters which is the football and we’ve been trying to do that this week.”
