Paul Lambert insists there can be no let-up from his Wolves side – as they prepare for a “dangerous” fixture against Queens Park Rangers.
Wolves have taken ten points from their last five games, the first time they have achieved that return this season, whilst the R’s arrive at Molineux tomorrow (3pm) on the back of six successive defeats.
But Lambert knows fortunes can quickly change in the Sky Bet Championship, and that is why his focus will be on his team continuing their recent good run and their recent attacking football to try and secure another positive result.
“It will be another tough game,” says the Head Coach.
“I know QPR are having a bit of a hard time at the moment and Ian (Holloway) has said they are in a little bit of a rut.
“We have to play how we have been doing and keep the crowd behind us and then we will be a really good side.
“We have to keep this confidence and this good feeling going, and be aggressive and play with the same intensity and enthusiasm.
“If we do that then we have a chance.
“It is a dangerous game, as all games are in the Championship, if you don’t treat it right.
“If you don’t work hard and have the same desire you don’t win.
“We have to be exactly the same as we have been in the last few weeks,
“If you don’t run around the pitch and you don’t put the work in then you lose.
“If we put the work in, then with the ability that we have got, we have a chance.
“I want to be positive and I want us to get as far up that table as we can before the end of the season.
“We will always strive to be successful.
“The lows in football are really low, but when you get success it is an incredible high.
“I want to go as far as we can, so let’s see what happens.”
Wolves head into the game after back-to-back league wins for the first time since September, and Lambert wants his side to keep on attacking!
“I thought we did really well against Bristol City on Boxing Day and deserved to win the game,” he says.
“To win back to back games was great but now we have to go out and try and win another one.
“And we are still a long way off where we want to be.
“There is loads we can work on. - where we are in the table to start with.
“I have only been here a short time but I think the way we are playing and the way the lads are enjoying their football is good.
“But we are still a good distance from where we want to be.
“To be fair to the lads they have been excellent in the time I have been here.
“And it’s not been dull!
“Going forward we have looked good and we are a threat to any team we play against.
“But we also need to shore it up, as a team, in other areas of the park.
“When you defend, you defend as a team.
“Not just the goalkeeper and the back four and the midfield lads – everybody.
“I always say you win together and you lose together.
“We are certainly a good team going forward – I love the flair we have got and I love attacking players and I will not deviate from that.
“The team I built at Norwich was the same and we used to ship a few goals there as well.
“Going forward we were excellent and I love what the front lads can do here.
“I think we need some cover in a few areas and need to get that in but I think we are a threat.”
To keep up that forward threat Lambert accepts that he may have to shuffle his pack given tomorrow’s game is followed by another, a trip to Sheffield Wednesday, on Monday.
But he has been pleased by the return to fitness of Joe Mason, joining Jon Dadi Bodvarsson in providing cover to the current forward options of Nouha Dicko and Bright Enobakhare.
“Mason and Bodvarsson were very good when they came on, and Nouha and Bright had done great before that,” said Lambert.
“I have been really pleased with Nouha coming back - he is a terrific player and I love the way he plays the game, right on the edge and on the shoulder of people.
"Once he gets scoring again I don't think he will stop.
“With two games in the space of three days we are going to have to utilise most of the squad.
“We will have to judge it as to who we think can do it in terms of two games in three days.
“I think there will be changes, but it is whether we do it on Saturday or on Monday depending on how it goes - it is a quick turnaround.”
Lambert is also hoping to have more options over the coming weeks with the likes of Mike Williamson and Lee Evans coming back into contention.
“Mike Williamson and Lee Evans are coming back which is good, and Prince (Oniangue) is also back in training,” he said.
“I will see how Mick is over the weekend – it might be too soon for him but the pleasing thing is that he is not feeling any effects.
“Let’s see how he is over the next week or so.”
