Just the beginning

Cavaleiro targets successful Wolves run

Ivan Cavaleiro says his recent spate of two goals in three games has to be “just the beginning” as he targets a sustained run of form for both him and Wolves.

The arrival of Paul Lambert as Head Coach has co-incided with Cavaleiro’s longest run of starts in the Wolves team since his summer arrival, and he has responded with two goals from the last three games.

The latest of those came when he and Helder Costa were on target in Tuesday’s 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest.

“It was a special game for us (on Saturday) because we needed a victory,” says the Portuguese front man.

“We worked hard to get that win.

“We had talked a lot about it and the team was together in this game.

“The fans were with us from the first minute to the last and we have to thank them.

“Now we have to try and win the next game as well.

“This has to be the beginning.

“I have to keep my feet on the floor and keep working hard for the team.

“I am a striker and I like to score goals.

“But it is also about the team and their objectives.

“It is about all of us growing together as a team and getting results for the fans.”

“Me scoring goals is a part of that and I want to do more of that.”

Having beaten QPR and gone mighty close to beating Fulham, Cavaleiro believes Wolves dipped below recent standards in last Tuesday’s defeat at Cardiff.

The 23-year-old says it is all about keeping the momentum going now over the two home games, against Bristol City on December 26th and QPR on December 31st.

“We have games on Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday and we didn’t play well on Tuesday,” he said.

“It feels like the team is doing better now and we have to keep going and keep together – this is the key.

“I think we can get momentum now.

“In four or five games now we have been good going forward.

“We just have to defend better as a team and also take more of our opportunities.”
