New arrival Ola John believes he has “unfinished business” with the Sky Bet Championship after spending last season on loan with Reading.
The 24-year-old winger made 33 appearances for the Royals, 23 of them from the bench, and is keen to use that experience to his benefit as he looks to make an impact at Wolves on a season-long loan from Benfica.
“I’m really happy to be here,” he says.
"I think I have some unfinished business in this league.
"I want to be more important for Wolves.
“Last season I scored four goals and made a few assists, but I wasn’t consistent enough so that’s what I want to do this season.
“And I want to help the team win games.
"There’s a lot of passion in this league, it’s an easy decision for me.
"I played once in this beautiful stadium here (for Reading), it was a difficult game and we lost.
“Wolves has massive history of course and I think they have to be in the Premier League.
"The new owners have a big plan and I want to be part of that plan.
"The Championship is a really difficult league – you have to 10 to 15 teams who want to go up.
“With the new owners coming in it is very exciting and I hope we can do it.”
John is keen to settle quickly into the dressing room, both in renewing acquaintances with some of the Portuguese players he knows from Benfica, as well as meet Wolves’ more long-serving players, many of whom he played against last season.
And he is also looking forward to working with the club’s Head Coach.
"I’m really excited to work with Walter Zenga, I heard a lot of good stuff about him,” he added.
"The Portuguese players of course I know them.
“I can speak the language and communicate with everyone and that will help me to get to know everyone.
“We are colleagues now and will see each other every day so we can be a good team.
"I just want to do well. The most important thing is to help the team.
“I know how hard the league is and how exciting it is and there are a lot of games and are a lot of passion!”
John is waiting to hear if he will make his Wolves bow in Tuesday night’s EFL Cup tie at home to Cambridge United (7.45pm).
And he is happy to play in any of the positions across the front-line.
“I am a typical left winger, I can go inside or outside,” he says.
“I think that is my best position but I am happy to play anywhere across the front.”
