Kenny Jackett believes Wolves have plenty of strengths with which to try and improve upon net season – but says that improving the front line will be a major priority.
Wolves will hopefully have Nouha Dicko to return to that front line for the start of next season, and winger Jordan Graham a few months in, and the Head Coach is also keen for further recruitment.
And he knows improvement is needed after a difficult recent run in which Wolves have found wins hard to come by as the season nears its conclusion.
"It’s not hard to work out where we need (to strengthen),” says Jackett.
"Looking through the team and the combinations right the way through the side, we’re short along our front line – that’ll make a massive difference.
"For us to make sure that doesn’t continue into next year – because if we start a season like that we’re going to be at the wrong end of the table, that’s easy to see – recruitment in the summer is going to be key.
"And us seeing where we have to build on the strengths that we have.
"We’re not where we want to be.
"What we’re producing at the moment isn’t a winning formula and it isn’t necessarily suddenly going to turn into that.
"I do understand and accept that.
"But also there are a lot of strengths here to capitalise on, and we’re not a million miles away.
"And if we can readjust and make the right type of additions to compliment what we have, I think that we can turn a mid-table season into a better one, and that’s very important.”
Speculation has reared its head on several occasions about Jackett’s future, after Wolves found it tough to build on a season when 78 points was a record high in not making it into the play-offs.
The Head Coach remains firmly focused on the final two games of the season against Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday, and then looking to further improvement,
"Certainly for my bosses, Kevin Thelwell, Jez Moxey and to a degree then Steve Morgan, it’s been business as usual,” he says.
"It’s not something that’s necessarily always touched upon, about who and where, going forward, but obviously three wins out of 18, whoever is sat here then there are questions.
"How to improve the team, how to help, getting the best out of what we’ve got, and then after that looking forward and improving, are the keys."
Wolves have a sellout away following of 2,000 for Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest (3pm).
