Jack Price is delighted with his resurgent return to the Wolves team but has vowed to keep improving to keep his place by insisting: “I still have more to offer.”
The popular midfielder has helped bring more solidity to Wolves’ game with his return for the last three matches, during which only one goal has been conceded.
But, ahead of tonight’s game at MK Dons, the 23-year-old, who struck the post with a long range shot in the draw at league leaders Burnley, has revealed that he wants to add a more attacking threat to his game as well.
“I thought that shot at Burnley was in to be honest!” says Price.
“The ball was set back to me and I was only when I looked back after that I realised how far out it was.
“At the time I thought it was closer in but I did think I’d hit it well and was wheeling away to celebrate with the fans.
“I’d seen Morts our Kitman in the crowd and I was heading for him!
“Sadly it wasn’t to be and hopefully it isn’t that far away.
“Scoring goals is something I need to add to my game, as well as creating more as well.
“I know I have got more to my game than just helping the defence and keeping things ticking over and I know I have to build on that.
“I will keep working hard in training and hopefully can add those things to my game and become a better player.
“It is nice to have picked up some Man of the Match awards from the sponsors and the fans and it shows I am doing something right for them.
“I still feel there is a lot more to come from me.
“I had a good spell going into Christmas when I felt I was doing well and my fitness levels were good and I felt confident.
“Then I got ill and lost my place and maybe it has taken some time to get back to that level which hopefully I am there now and I can stay in there for the rest of the season.
“That would be a good achievement for me now.
“And if I do ever score, and it’s in front of the South Bank, I will be in there!”
Price was among the starters on Wolves’ last visit to Stadium MK, the 1-0 win in front of a crowd including over 9,000 travelling fans two years ago.
With Wolves occupying mid-table as the season’s end approaches, there may not be the same feel to this evening’s game for Kenny Jackett’s team.
But Price says there will be full focus on trying to get the three points and end up finishing as high as possible in the Sky Bet Championship table.
“MK Dons have a fight to stay up and while we are away from that, we still need to make sure and will go there with the attitude of wanting to take all three points,” he added.
“I think there is more pressure on teams battling at the top end or the bottom and we have had that with the last two games against Burnley and Ipswich.
“But while the pressure is on the other teams we want to get results as well and make sure we are ready for these games.
“We played very well at Burnley and wanted to build on that but it wasn’t one of our better performances against Ipswich.
“Maybe the international break didn’t help – it always seems to come at a bad time for us – and it just seemed one of those games where the two teams cancel each other out.
“As a team now we have seven games left and we want to win as many of them as we can and pick up as many points as we can.
“It is about ending the season on a high and building for the start of next season and giving it a better go.
“We have got confidence in the group and we know we can get to the level like we did mixing it with Burnley a couple of weeks ago.
“We haven’t got to that level consistently enough this season and that is what we need to improve on.
“I definitely think we have got it in the group to do that.”
