Jeremy Helan says Wolves must take every chance to impress between now and the end of the season to ensure the team make a strong finish to the campaign.
The 23-year-old midfielder, on loan from Sheffield Wednesday, is enjoying his temporary switch to Molineux which has seven games remaining given he will be ineligible for the final day visit of the promotion-chasing Owls.
Of the five matches played since Helan arrived – three of which have been again teams in the top six – Wolves have won two, drawn two and lost one.
“I have settled in well and am enjoying it here,” he says.
“We have had a couple of good results as well and everything is going fine.
“We have had some tough games since I arrived with teams like Middlesbrough, Derby, Birmingham and Burnley.
“We have got some decent results from them.
“I think we have showed we can compete against these teams but that is what we have to show on a regular basis.
“If we could do that then I think we would be higher in the table than where we are.
“The two qualities I see here in the squad are hunger and ambition.
“That ambition is what will drive us forward and form the basis of what is to come.
“The desire is there to do well from the first to the last minute and I think that is why we have scored some goals late in games recently.
“A team that can pick up results late in games is one that never gives up and that is the mentality we have here.
“We are young and want to do well and that has shown in the late goals against Derby, Bristol City and Burnley.”
On his own form, Helan is pleased to be back playing regular football, and is confident he will continue to improve between now and the end of the season.
He is also happy to be linking up down the left with full back Matt Doherty, whose recent form has secured his first full international call-up with the Republic of Ireland.
“I am enjoying the link we have,” Helan said of Doherty.
“The way he has been playing has been very good and he has been called up for the national squad shows the progress he has made.
“We get on well and I am enjoying playing alongside him down the left.
“I think I have done o-k so far but I think there is more to come from me.
“Obviously the more I am here the more I know the other players better and now there is two weeks between games to work and try and get even better.
“Playing regular games is something I was missing and that is good for me.
“When you play games you can progress – the more I play the better I can be for the team.”
And Helan believes Wolves can continue to make good progress over the remainder of the Sky Bet Championship season.
“We have another tough game when we come back at home to Ipswich,” he added.
“We will be ready to test ourselves and we are unbeaten in three games at home and have to keep playing as we have been and hopefully keep that going.
“Whatever happens we will give our all for the rest of the season in every match.
“As the gaffer tells us, we are professionals who are paid to play football and we have to give our best every day.
“You have to do your job properly and you are always being judged in football and you have to do well for yourself, the club and the fans.
“It is also a chance for players to impress ahead of next season as people always remember how strongly you finish and that can get things looking positive for next season.”
