Wolves striker Leonardo Campana has joined Swiss Super League side Grasshopper Club Zurich on a season-long loan.
The Ecuador international has recently returned from the Copa America, where he made four appearances to help his country into the quarter-finals of the South American competition this summer, before falling to eventual champions Argentina.
Campana, formerly of Barcelona SC, is yet to make his debut in old gold, but the forward did spend the 2020/21 season on loan with Portuguese Primiera Liga outfit Familicao.
Although his season was hampered by injury, the 20-year-old fought back to appear nine times in the Portuguese first tier, scoring twice and claiming one assist as the team finished just outside the European places.
Campana is now taking on a new challenge in the Swiss top-flight by joining newly-promoted Grasshoppers, where he will link up with familiar Wolves faces, to further his development.
Scott Sellars, Wolves technical director, said: “Last year was difficult for Leonardo. When he did play, he scored goals, but it was a tough season with the injury and Covid, so we didn’t have many opportunities to see him play.
“He’s come back from the Copa America where he played high level football and that was important for him, after the season he had, to be playing some football.
“Grasshoppers will be a great experience for him to go and progress his career and gain experience. It’s an advantage to him and us that people there know him already, and he knows people there.
“We think it’s a really good opportunity for him to get some more experience and progress, and hopefully it’ll be very positive for all parties.”
