Wolves’ legend and vice-president John Richards has decided to take a leap of faith and raise funds for Wolves Foundation.
The club’s former striker is taking part in the first ever Molineux Abseil this Saturday, joining 70 other intrepid thrill-seekers in abseiling down from the roof of the Billy Wright Stand and landing safely pitchside, enjoying a view of the stadium which he will never have experienced before.
Richards, 73, says: “I’m not the best with heights, but when I first read the details of the abseil, I thought that I've seen Molineux from most positions, but never from the top of the Billy Wright stand.
“Maybe it feels like a bit of an initiation ceremony for becoming a vice-president but I’m looking forward to seeing how many people have the courage to take part and support the excellent work which the Foundation deliver.
“I’ve already had some great support from friends and family and Kenny Hibbitt, who is staying with me the night before after taking part in the Wolves Former Players’ Association Golf Day, is also planning to come and watch.”
Richards is one of several former players from his era who have actively supported Wolves Foundation’s work, including attending activities and events such as Molineux Memories, the Molineux Sleepout and Walking Football.
He is a strong advocate of the work of the club’s official charity.
“Wolves Foundation is crucial, it is part and parcel of the club and the city,” he says.
“The community has and always will be a huge part of Wolves, it’s that relationship between the club, the players and the community and the Foundation plays the biggest role in that in my opinion.
“They do fantastic work, and it is so important.”
Places to take part in the Molineux Abseil were quickly snapped up but fans can still support the event, and Wolves Foundation, by making a donation.
