Ruddy wins Wolves Foundation award

John Ruddy was named Wolverhampton Wanderers Foundation PFA Community Player of the Year at the club’s End of Season Awards dinner this summer.

Each year a Wolves player is recognised for their outstanding contributions to the Foundation and their work in the local area, and was announced End of Season Awards dinner for the first time this year.

John always goes above and beyond to support the charity, having been on multiple player visits throughout the past season alone.

Early in the season, John was joined by Conor Coady at Eastfield Primary School as part of the Premier League Primary Stars free kit and equipment scheme, surprising the young school children with free equipment to enhance their PE lessons.

He continued to encourage kids to keep active by getting involved with SuperMovers as Wolves Foundation celebrated the Young Sports Personality of the Year Awards being presented in the West Midlands.

John also visited St Luke’s Primary School along with presenters Gabby Logan and Radzi Chinyanganya, joining youngsters on their new initiative run by the Premier League and BBC, which encourages learning and moving at the same time.

St Luke’s headteacher Alison Grenan spoke highly of John: “He was having a go at his times tables in front of about 420 children and he was great, he was brilliant.

“John high fived the children and took part. He’s someone the kids can aspire to be like and that’s what it’s all about.”

The goalkeeper also gave back to the community as part of our annual Christmas visits, heading to Wetscroft School to spread some festive cheer to children with complex cognitive needs.

Wolves Foundation are thankful for John’s commitments to the club charity over the years he was been at Wolves, he is a fantastic role model for professional footballers and is someone children can aspire to be.
