Lage delighted with three-point haul

Bruno Lage heaped praise on his players and the home crowd after Wolves got their first win of the season at Molineux on Saturday.

Hee Chan Hwang scored in either half, both impressive finishes from Raul Jimenez passes, to sink Newcastle United as Molineux savoured that three-point feeling. The victory signs off for another international weekend on a positive note and saw Lage’s ideas continue to filter through to his players.

On getting the Molineux win

“It was 90 minutes in a good environment, with a good feeling us. I think we did a good performance. I was waiting for this because after the way we played against Southampton, the three points, the way we worked all week and prepared to play well, we won the game and scored goals.

“The most important thing is the way we start the game and finish the game, and today we did everything. We scored one goal in the first-half, we scored one goal in the second-half, and we win the game which is the most important thing.

“I had the feeling during the week, we did well, a good week of training and came and the players did the scenario we created during the week, so it was very good the way we played, the way we pressed, the way we created chances, and also with the support we have.”

On his ideas coming through

“Since the first day, we came with that idea to challenge the players to play in a different way and they are doing that. All the managers have their own ideas, but the players need to understand what we want, the players need to believe in our ideas, the players need to work hard like these guys are doing and in the end the support from the stands was amazing. Today, it was 90 minutes with a good environment, and a good feeling since the first minute.”

On Hwang’s day

“For him, today of course, it’s a special day because they were two great goals and two great assists. It’s not just him, if you look at the opportunities we had, we have a lot of players to try to link the game between the lines.

“He did that, the same situation happened with Trincao, we are working a lot to have that kind of moment. I’m very happy to have four wingers because they have different profiles and can give me different solutions.”

On two Jimenez assists

“He didn’t score, but was very important for us, especially what he did for the second goal. We try to work with him to come and link more in the game. What he did for the second goal was very good. The combination with all the players, we had moments where we had the ball from Jose, passed through to Raul.

“Good dynamics – that’s the football I want. Try to find the best solutions, keep the ball and try to create chances. When you look at the two goals we did, and chances we created, the way we play, it was good.”

On singing off for the internationals

“It’s one more three points. This is a hard competition, we are happy in the moment, but need to continue to work to continue with these performances, score goals and win points.”
