Neves | 'We can improve even more'

Ruben Neves was relieved Wolves got off the mark for the season at Watford on Saturday but insists the group doesn't want to stop and will look to build on their success.

Francisco Sierralta’s own goal ended the wait for a Premier League goal to put Wolves ahead, before a debut strike from Hee Chan Hwang made the game safe, to the delight of Neves in the midfield. Having felt hard done by picking up zero points during the opening three, the 24-year-old always believed the results would come and he was “proud” of all involved in the Vicarage Road victory.

On ending the wait for a win

“We’ve been working for this since the beginning of the season. Like we said after every single game before, we deserved a little bit more from each game we did at the beginning of the season.

“We finally get our three points, I think we deserved that, again I think we can improve even more, we have a lot of work to do, but we are really happy and really proud because I think we deserved that.”

On the first goal finally arriving

“After three games, we finally scored in the Premier League. I think we’ve been creating a lot of chances to score our first goal, and our first goal was an own goal, it doesn’t matter, the ball was in.

“We did a goal again after that, really happy for Chan as well, the first goal on his debut as well, but mainly really happy for the team and the fans, they deserved it as well, they’ve been fantastic for us, even with the bad results we had, so we just want to keep on going, just want to keep giving them reasons to celebrate.”

On Hwang’s instant impact

“It’s hard because we went to the national team straight after he came here, so we trained with him twice before the game. He’s a really good player, I think he’ll help us a lot, really happy for him.

“I knew after the first goal went in, we’ll score more, it’s all about confidence and now I think we are confident to go, we are confident in the way we are playing, but we need to improve more because we don’t want to stop here.”

On looking to back-to-back wins now

“We go to all the games to win; we’ve been doing that since the first game at Leicester. Unfortunately, we didn’t win the first three games, we won on Saturday and it’s really good for us, but our goal is always to win games, it doesn’t matter the opponent.

“Of course, it’s always better to win with our fans, but we were playing far from our home and our stand was full. We could only hear our fans during the game, so we feel like we are playing always at home, thank you to them, and we’ll keep on going.”
