Neves | 'When the first goal goes in, we will start winning games'

Ruben Neves is still sure Wolves will begin to get the rewards their performances deserve having fallen to another single-goal defeat, despite being the more dominant team.

Mason Greenwood’s late strike secured all three points for Manchester United at Molineux on Sunday afternoon in a game which Wolves had 15 shots at David De Gea’s goal, but was denied on several occasions by the United goalkeeper. But Neves felt aggrieved more than most at the final score, as he believed he was fouled in the build-up to the goal.

On still searching for first league win

“We need to keep working. We need to keep going. To be honest with you, I’ve never been in a position like this. Playing like we are playing and not scoring goals.

“But I’m sure the goals will come. I’m pretty sure that if we keep going, if we keep doing what we are doing, I’m pretty sure the results will come for us, because in a normal way, if we play like this for 10 games, we would lose two and win the rest.

“I think as soon as the first goal goes in, it will change and we will start winning games.”

On believing he was fouled before United’s goal

“Everyone saw it. Everyone saw my leg. I don’t know why [a foul wasn’t given], to be honest with you. They always do meetings about referees, about VAR. I don’t know why.

“They said before the season start that they would look for contact, and if the contact is strong enough, they would give the foul. I showed them my leg, just their decision was ‘no’.

“Maybe because in the last game [for United] it was a foul just before the Southampton goal. Maybe. But now they just did the opposite.

“But I’m not here to speak about the ref. Everyone saw my leg, I showed it to the ref, I showed it to the assistant ref, so I cannot say anything. That’s their decision.”

On his delayed reaction to the challenge

“I was delayed because I didn’t know where the ball was going. If the ball stays there, then I need to react. I saw the ball going away, I went to the floor because he hit my leg.

“I said that to the ref after the game. I said, ‘We both go to the ball’, I said to him, ‘Yes, we both went to the ball, but I was the one who touched the ball’. We both went to the ball, I touched the ball and he touched my leg. It’s a foul. It’s a clear foul.

“I have nothing more to say. That’s their decisions, it doesn’t matter what we say, it doesn’t matter anything, they still make their decisions.”
