Jimenez | 'I wanted to be here with the fans again'

Raul Jimenez believed Wolves deserved more from their defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon as he played his first Premier League match in a full Molineux since suffering a fractured skull.

On an emotional afternoon, the day was filled with subplots as the team were experiencing their first Premier League game at the stadium with fans since November, while former head coach Nuno Espirito Santo returned to the ground he called home for the past four seasons with his new side.

But it wasn’t to be a perfect day for the gold and black as Dele Alli’s penalty secured the points for the visitors, however Jimenez felt Wolves did more than enough to have got at least a point from the contest, but admitted the players need to be more clinical when opportunities pose themselves as attention turns to Tuesday evening’s Carabao Cup tie with Nottingham Forest.

On narrow defeat at Molineux

“We have been working really good in the week. I think in both matches we deserved more.

“We created a lot of opportunities, but we need to finish the actions and be more effective in the front.”

On the return of supporters

“For them and for us it’s almost been a year-and-a-half, more or less, maybe a little bit more, that they’ve been waiting for this moment.

“We wanted to give them the happiness of winning today, but this is football. Sometimes it happens like this.

“But we have to keep working because we have another match on Tuesday and we have to keep working hard and keep going.”

On back playing in front of the fans

“Since the beginning, I never took my eyes of that. I wanted to be here again, I wanted to be here with all the fans and the supporters.

“Today, I think we deserved more, but this is football.”
