Dendoncker | On game management, clean sheets and Jose's winner

Despite being pleased with another three points and clean sheet as Wolves made it back-to-back 1-0 wins in the Premier League, Leander Dendoncker believes the team need to manage games better when they are on top.

The Belgian was heavily involved in Wolves’ game-winning goal against Sheffield United on Saturday evening when he played Adama Traore through on the right, who in turn teed up Willian Jose for his first goal in gold and black.

But having become more stable at the back in recent weeks, Dendoncker admits the players need to add more goals to their game and start putting their opposition to the sword rather than relying on a narrow winning margin.

On taking the points against the Blades

“It was a tough game against a tough side who always fight, no matter what. We managed to score in the second-half which is good.

“But I think we still have to try and manage the game better when we’re one goal up or when we’re leading, and maybe score a second because we had the opportunities today to score a second.

“But then we defended really well, we kept the zero which is really important, so that’s positive.”

On successive clean sheets

“We’ve had to be really focused at the back, and just try and not give them any chances or any spaces to go forward.

“I think we managed that pretty well in the last two games, and we have to try and keep doing that.”

On Jose’s first goal for the club

“It’s really deserved. He’s doing well for us, keeping the ball really well, and I think he deserves that goal.

“His goal was ruled out after a silly offside really, so I think he really deserves it and that’s the type of goals that he makes from crosses from the side.

“Adama got another assist as well today which is good, but we have to just keep working until the end of the season now.”

On turning attention to Burnley on Sunday

“They’re very similar to what we faced today. They are fighting, they are defensively really strong, they don’t concede a lot of goals and then going forward they have some strong players in there up front.

“They are strong in the air so, physically, it will be a tough game as well, but it’s up to us to be ready again, try and play, have the ball, create chances and be well organised defensively.”
