Moutinho | On Leeds victory, change in strategy and Kilman's impact

Joao Moutinho knows the importance of Wolves’ win over Leeds United as the side fought out a hard-earned three points at Elland Road.

Despite not being at their free-flowing best in the first-half, Wolves turned the tide in the second period to take the victory and move up to sixth in the Premier League table, and the experienced Portuguese midfielder admits a change in strategy was the key to unlocking a well-organised Leeds outfit.

On a hard-earned three points

“It’s a good win. We came here to get the three points and that’s the most important. We don’t start very well, but they started well and had good possession of the ball.

“We changed the strategy a little bit and I think after that we took a little bit of control of the game. They didn’t create opportunities to score, we created two or three opportunities to score, and we scored one – that’s the most important; we won and now we are already thinking the next game.”

On soaking up Leeds’ first-half pressure

“They came in with a lot of pressure on the ball, they tried to go to the space and they created something, not a lot of real opportunities, but for 10/15 minutes they were better than us.

“But after that, we changed the strategy for two midfielders and it’s easier to control the game. We controlled more of the game, we had a little bit more possession of the ball, we tried to play and we created opportunities to score.

“We scored one, we had the opportunity of Saiss, and the offside it’s like only the foot of Podence, but we focused on the game after that and we tried to do what we can to score and Raul did it – a very good goal.”

On a fortunate winning goal

“The chances we had, we tried to finish. Of course, the goal of Saiss doesn’t count, but we tried another one and Raul scored.

“After, we need to be prepared to defend the result because it’s a tough game, a difficult stadium to play, and they have a good team, a good coach, and I think that we had a very good result here.”

On two excellent performances from Kilman

“He did it very well, the two clean sheets, but all the team did it very well too. We defend like a block, we attack like a block, and this is the most important.

“After the game, some players are going to be talked about, and Max is one of them because what he has, and this is important for us. We have confidence in him, and he has confidence on the team too.”
