Jimenez: 'We deserved more from Burnley draw'

Raul Jimenez felt Wolves deserved more from their 1-1 draw with Burnley on Wednesday evening after having scored one of his best goals in gold and black.

The Mexican thought he’d done enough to help Wolves secure the three points when struck a perfect volley from the edge of the area past Nick Pope, but a controversial last-minute penalty saw the Clarets snatch a point, leaving Jimenez and his teammates feeling like they were on the end of a defeat.

On a deflating draw at Turf Moor

“It was difficult. We’ll go back home with this result, we wanted the win here, but this is football. It’s not over till the referee says it’s over.

“I felt we’d done enough to win, but maybe we had to score one more goal to secure the match, but anything can happen till the end. I think we deserved more, but now we can’t do anything.

“We have to bounce back again, this is not finished and we have two games ahead, so we have to recover from this, keep going and keep fighting to achieve our goals.”

On his stunning volleyed goal

“The ball came to me and I hit it. I had the fortune to score again in another match to help the team to add some points.

“We have to keep on going and I have to keep scoring, and looking forward.”

On tough Burnley opposition

“It’s difficult to play against these kinds of teams that the only thing they want is to put the ball up and go for the second balls.

“These kinds of things are always more difficult, but we knew that we were going to be against this kind of team, so we have to keep working.”

On the last-minute penalty decision

“I didn’t see the replay and I’m going to see it after, but we can’t do anything now.

“I hope it’s a penalty, if not, it’s a bad decision and we’ll know, but now it’s finished, and we have to get our heads in the next game.”

On a final pair of Premier League matches

“We have two matches and we want to get the six points. We have to keep working like we are doing it.

“They’re going to be tough matches, but we have the team to compete and to win those games.”
