Nuno wanted high tempo in Brighton draw

Nuno Espirito Santo said Wolves needed to move the ball quicker in their goalless draw with Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

For the second season running, the Seagulls frustrated Wolves, who couldn’t break down their visitors at Molineux. The hosts struggled to create in the final third and found Brighton bodies in the way when they did, which left Nuno looking at the speed of his side’s play on a frustrating afternoon.

On a tough afternoon

“We didn’t perform so well, like we wanted. It was a tough game, against a very good team. We were also organised, it was a game of not too many chances, but it’s about how we perform, how we want to do things.

“We didn’t perform so well, like we wanted and expected. Brighton are a very good team, very organised. We weren’t able to unbalance them many times, and they didn’t, but we have to move the ball faster.

“We should collect the ball faster, try to unbalance them faster. Brighton were very organised, had good possession of the ball, and we didn’t create too many chances, as they didn’t.”

On breaking down Brighton

“We expected this kind of game and we must find unbalanced situations, mainly in our wide areas and one versus one situations. We know our opponents, we knew today would be like that, we should have done better.

“It’s not about the result. It’s the game we wanted to play and were not able to do. Some parts you should improve and do better.

“We keep on building and improving, trying always to sustain the levels of performance. Today we didn’t and we have to improve for the next one.”

On finding solutions

“We tried to find solutions for the game. Sometimes it works out, Adama [Traore] helped the team, Daniel [Podence] entered well, but we didn’t create too many situations. Brighton were very well organised.

“We must realise that we didn’t perform well, like we wanted. Now we must analyse and go for the next one, because Thursday we have a big challenge in front of us.”
