Doherty: 'Things seem to be clicking' for Wolves

Although delighted for Diogo Jota to score his fifth goal in four days as Wolves comfortably overcame Norwich in the Premier League, Matt Doherty believes it does not matter who scores, as long as the team wins.

The wing-back set up the Portuguese forward for the first of three goals at Molineux on Sunday afternoon, and after Wolves notched their seventh goal and kept their second clean sheet in the last two games, Doherty knows his teammates are firing at both ends of the pitch.

On victory over Norwich

“I’m obviously happy with the result and the clean sheet. I guess the first-half was a bit of a grind, considering we were probably still a little bit tired from Thursday night.

“But it’s the kind of thing that you have to kind of get through, and get your second wind, and after that we kind of cruised the game.”

On seven goals and two clean sheets in four days

“It’s our job to keep the ball out the net and contribute offensively whenever we can. So, it’s ultimately been very satisfying.

“Things seem to be just clicking at the moment, and obviously Jota nearly got two hat-tricks in two games, so our forward line is full of confidence as well as our defensive line.”

On VAR check of Jota’s opener

“I didn’t know why they were checking it, to be honest. I knew that it hadn’t hit my arms, so when they said they were checking handball, I didn’t actually think it was for me.

“I didn’t really know what it was for because you’d feel something like that and I never felt anything.”

On the team being more than individuals

“It doesn’t really matter who scores the goals or who gets the headlines, as long as we’re winning games. That’s the most important thing, and I think any other player will say that.

“Jota’s goals could have been shared out between five different people and nobody would’ve complained.

“As long as we’re scoring goals and keeping clean sheets, we’re going to win most of the games, and especially at this time of the season, it’s important to do that.”
