Coady on "cruel result" after VAR controversy

Conor Coady described Wolves’ draw with Leicester City as “cruel” after VAR chalked off Willy Boly’s goal.

It was the latest VAR incident surrounding a Wolves goal against the Foxes, but nevertheless, Coady insists the hosts should have won the game. After nullifying their visitors, Wolves passed up the better opportunities, after a marginal offside had ruled out Boly’s header.

On VAR confusion

“We felt it was cruel at their place as well. I don’t want to speak about VAR too much. I’ve spoken about it before and it doesn’t really get you anywhere. I don’t think the referees know what’s going on and we don’t know what’s going on.

“We should have won the game, it’s as simple as that, but we don’t understand the decision, I don’t think many people understand the decision, but it’s been made and that’s twice against Leicester now this season.”

On a good performance

“The lads dug in, I thought we were fantastic, I thought we played some great football. We had a game plan, we know they like to have the ball and press. We tried to get rid of that and stop them doing that, and I thought we did.

“We created chances and we should have won the game, but it’s a point, we move on and keep going against a good team.”

On handling Leicester and Jamie Vardy

“They’re a fantastic team. They’ve done brilliant all season, have a brilliant manager and brilliant players. It wasn’t the fact they were down to ten men, it was the fact that we kept on going, we kept on playing how we want to and showed our character.

“He’s an outstanding footballer (Vardy). You’ve got to concentrate for 95 minutes against him, he’s a fantastic footballer. It wasn’t just me, it was the whole team, the back three, the lads either side of me were outstanding as well.

“It’s important we take the positives and move on to the Europa League now. This was an important game we wanted to win, but there’s 12 games left, and we’ll go game by game.”

Of Boly's influence

"He's massive. He's a huge part of this club. I said after the previous game at Manchester United how much of a fantastic player he is, but more than that, he's a brilliant person to have back in the team.

"What he's done for this club in the last two-and-a-half years has been amazing, and to come back the way he has from injury just shows how much he's done everything right, and how professional he's been.

"He fits into this team, is a huge part of this club and it's a pleasure to have him back in the team."
