Nuno confident of January additions

Although admitting the January transfer window is tough to conduct business in, Nuno Espirito Santo remains confident of adding to his group this month.

Speaking ahead of Wolves’ Emirates FA Cup replay at Manchester United, Nuno was asked about progress in the market and remains upbeat. The head coach has made clear his desire to bring in fresh bodies and confirmed it’s work in progress behind the scenes.

On the transfer market

“We are working on it. I hope so (being close to new players). It’s very difficult for all the clubs, it’s a transfer window that is not the best one, because many players are involved in their teams. Sometimes you want a target and he’s not available because he’s playing.

“Sometimes you want things to move faster, so it’s a tough moment but we are working on it. It’s up to us to find the right deal. I’m confident.”

On Jota’s progress

“It’s going to be the same squad as the previous game (against United). Diogo had a scan yesterday and next week I think he’ll progress on the pitch. He can start his healing process, he’s doing OK so hopefully he can start with us next week. It’s important, the same as Boly, important, of course.

“He’s been away a long time. We didn’t expect it to be so serious, but he’s healing OK so hopefully next week he can start running with the team. Then it’s about him progressing and getting better, so we can use him in competition.”

On possible changes

“The most important is always the next one. It’s always difficult choose (the team), it’s requires time and a decision. This is the process and we’re going to decide tomorrow. We have to assess some things and decide.”

On coming from behind

“I take it as a negative because we should try and score first. That’s how we want to compete, it’s better for us. It’s the game, it happens. I’m aware, everybody’s aware, so let’s try to do it tomorrow, manage the game better.”

On internal targets

“Things that are told outside, expectations that are created outside, are not part of us. We cannot control it. The table and what we are fighting for, all these things came from outside.

“We are aware of what we have to do and that’s compete game by game, don’t get distracted by anything because it all comes from outside. All the people involved should be aware of how we want to do things. Where we came from and where we want to go.”
