The defender featured against Liverpool and Watford recently and will hope for more game time at Old Trafford. The replay provides another challenge for Wolves and a third competition to focus on, but Bennett is insistent that the group will be determined to progress and face Tranmere Rovers or Watford in the next round.
On the desire to win
“It’s important for both teams. You never come across a group of players, or individual, that says any game isn’t important and they don’t want to win. The 11 players that are playing on that day, there’s not a chance they want to lose, it’s impossible for a sportsperson so go out and do their job, accepting that they want to lose.
“That’s never going to happen across any sport. When you’re out there, it becomes the most important game because it’s the next one and that’s the same for them. Neither clubs are going to challenge for silverware in the league this season, so these are opportunities where you can challenge.
“We did well last year in this competition and we enjoyed the ride. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to the end, but that’s something we want to put right and something we’re aiming for. It’s another game we want to win and we’ll be looking to do that to progress to the next round.”
On playing at Old Trafford
“They’re the grounds you want to play at, when I was growing up you looked at Old Trafford, St James’ Park, Highbury – the iconic grounds people always remember.
“The big one everyone wants to do this year is obviously Tottenham, but you never get bored of going to these kind of places. It’s not surreal when you’re there because you don’t really have time to enjoy it.”
On meeting Watford or Tranmere
“We lost to them (Watford) but played them after that and beat them 2-1. Drawing them or Tranmere, it’s another game, we’ve got this one to look forward to, away at Man United. Ultimately, we need to progress through that and we’ll deal with what comes next after that.
“It’s not something we’ll pay too much attention to, you know Watford’s a difficult place to go, the same as what Tranmere will be. Not many of the lads here would have played there. We need to take care of our own tie first and we’ll see who we get after that.”
