Jimenez pleased to be back in the goals

Raul Jimenez was rewarded for his confidence at Carrow Road, as he claimed Wolves’ winner over Norwich City on Saturday.

The striker went four Premier League matches without a goal before the trip to Norwich, but the Mexican always backs himself and was back in the goals, firing home a loose ball nine minutes from time. It was a crucial strike for his team, who showed character in a much-improved second-half to come back, and Jimenez was pleased to contribute in front of goal.

On his winning goal

“I had some matches without a goal, but I never lose the faith. I’m always there in the zone and I know the goal is going to appear some time. So, I’m very happy to score the winning goal and help the team to win the three points. Scoring goals is important. Three points keep us there, it’s a big win.”

On the effort required

“It was a very difficult match until the end. They are a good team, they are down in the table, but they played very well. They made things that sometimes it feels like they’re not going to do, incredible things, but the spirit that we have, it’s very important for us to win this kind of games.”

On an improved second-half

“We knew that if we wanted to win, we had to change our mind, change our football, return to our basics that all season made us win the games, and being as a team, as we are.

“We changed the mentality. We knew that the first-half wasn’t us, the football we’ve been showing all season. The second-half was better, we were looking to score, to win the game and at the end we won and are there, fighting at the top.

“We are very happy now because our second-half was much better than our first. The second-half was the team that we really are, and at the end the two goals made us win the game and we are very happy for that.”

On the squad managing the schedule

“That’s what we wanted since last season. We were fighting there for seventh place last season. We knew this could happen, a lot of matches, but we are prepared, all the team, the starting eleven, the guys that stay on the bench, all of us are ready for what’s coming.”
