Jota proud of 11-minute hat-trick

Diogo Jota is looking forward to being able to tell his grandchildren about scoring the third fastest Europa League hat-trick after netting three goals in 11 minutes against Besiktas at Molineux.

The Portuguese forward had only been on the pitch for two minutes when he netted Wolves’ opening goal with his first touch of the evening as he was found by Pedro Neto’s cross before pouncing on the rebound after Leander Dendoncker’s long-range effort came back off the crossbar to get his second moments later.

Jota completed his hat-trick on 69 minutes when he tapped in a cross by Oskar Buur – making his first senior Wolves appearance in 618 days – to secure a 4-0 win for his side and end their group stage campaign on a high.

On third fastest hat-trick in Europa League history

“It makes me proud. I didn’t know that stat, it’s really good. It’s a story to tell my grandkids when I get old.”

On scoring with his first touch

“I think it was the first-time that happened to me. That’s football, that’s why we love this game, anything can happen, but now we are focused on our next game on Sunday.

“We are playing well, we are having good results, but we just want to keep on going.”

On making an impact from the bench

“I think everyone that is on the bench wants to come on and make an impact, fortunately I had that impact – it was very good for me; a hat-trick. I’m very happy we got the win as well.

“Our main goal was to get through the group stage and we accomplished that. Now we wait for the draw and we will play game by game as always.”

On playing with young players

“It’s a good opportunity for the boys, I was one of those once and we always want to give our contribution to the team. I think they really helped.

“Everyone wants to give his best to help the team and it’s up to the manager to decide who he wants to play, but we are all together as a family and Sunday we have one more to go.”
