Second-half improvements please Saiss

Romain Saiss was delighted his first goal in Europe contributed to an impressive comeback win against Slovan Bratislava on Thursday evening.

After a quiet first-half, Wolves found themselves 1-0 down at the break, but were much improved from then and fought their way back into the contest through Saiss’ effort. The comeback was completed by a Raul Jimenez penalty and Saiss praised his manager’s changes and different approach, which was rewarded in Slovakia.

On his first goal in Europe

“I recovered the ball and after I saw a lot of space in front of me, so I took my chance and I got lucky to score so I'm happy.

“Of course, I was injured for almost three weeks, it was hard. I'm happy to be back like this and to have no pain so everything was good for me today and for the team.”

On the second-half showing

“I think we played much better in the second-half. I think in the first-half we were disorganised.

“We gave a lot of space to them and the second-half we were more compact and higher - we recovered the ball higher and after we created a lot of chances and scored two goals – I think we deserved this result.”

On Nuno’s changes

“At first, he made one substitute with Adama to give more width and try to use the space and I think it was a lot different because with the speed of Adama, and after with Jota, we created a lot of chances and made them frustrated.

“I think the most important is to become more compact on the pitch, to become more organised, don't give the ball easier and a lot of spaces like in the first-half and when we recovered the ball we were higher so it was easier to attack this team so we are happy.”

On the atmosphere

“I think it was a good idea instead of playing without fans, it's good to put the children – I think it was free for them and the atmosphere was good. I hope they enjoyed the game, I think it's a good idea to invite the children - it's better to play without fan so, it was good.”

On the Newcastle test

“We have to continue in this way to get points and go to Newcastle to win the game because we have a tough week that's coming.

“We have to be ready, first, recovery and then tomorrow we are going to start to prepare for this game because it's important for us.”
