Wolves v Watford | 5 things to know

Wolves return to Premier League action on Saturday with the visit of Watford to Molineux. As Nuno Espirito Santo’s side look to continue their positive week, here are five things to look out for.

1. SAISS RETURNS

Romain Saiss makes a swift return as a selection option to Nuno, after missing the Reading cup tie through suspension. The Moroccan picked up two yellow cards against Crystal Palace last weekend, which ruled him out for just the one match – the visit of the Royals. Back available, Nuno must decide if you stick with Saiss, or turn to Ryan Bennett or Jesus Vallejo, who put in solid performances at the back on Wednesday.

2. WATFORD HISTORY

Wolves and Watford enjoyed a series of ding-dong battles last season. The Hornets won episode one rather comfortably at Molineux, by two goals to nil. Then came the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. Wolves were in the driving seat with a two-goal lead, but back came Watford, who secured their place in the final thanks to an extra-time Gerard Deulofeu winner. However, Wolves came roaring back in the return to the Premier League, as Diogo Jota secured a 2-1 victory at Vicarage Road, which helped Nuno’s side on their way to Europa League qualification over the Hornets, who ironically lost in the final to confirm Wolves would be competing in Europe this season.

3. RUNS RESTART

Two long and recently broken runs can restart on Saturday when Watford visit. Captain Conor Coady had the longest unbroken run of games of any professional in the country, lasting 78 matches and 7,050 minutes, until sitting out of Wednesday’s draw with Reading. He’ll hope for an instant return to the side on Saturday and to spark a new run of matches. Also, until September, Wolves had enjoyed a run of 16 unbeaten matches at Molineux in all competitions. That record was broken with a pair of defeats to Chelsea and SC Braga recently, but should Wolves avoid defeat against the Hornets, they’ll hope to begin a fresh run of unbeaten matches.

4. WINLESS HORNETS

Watford themselves are without a Premier League win in six matches, so will be hungry to set the record straight at Molineux. The Hornets were beaten 8-0 at Manchester City last weekend, but the return of Quique Sanchez Flores as manager is still in its infancy. The Spaniard’s first game back saw Watford come from behind to draw with Arsenal, while in midweek they won their first game under Flores against Swansea City in the Carabao Cup. Danny Welbeck scored his first Watford goal on the night and is pushing for his first Premier League start at Molineux.

5. ON HOME SOIL

Joao Moutinho insists the Wolves players are determined to give their supporters something to celebrate in the Premier League on Saturday.
