Conor Coady insists Wolves will never stop showing their fighting spirit as they battled back to claim a well-deserved point against Crystal Palace.
The defender, who has played every minute of football for Wolves in the past two seasons, felt his side were unlucky to fall behind to another deflected goal, but were thoroughly worthy of claiming the point based on their ‘fantastic’ first-half display.
On taking a point at Palace
“I think we deserved it. Considering the run we’ve been on as well, we’ve come here with a way of playing, wanting to go back to the way we played and I thought we showed that, especially first-half, I thought we were fantastic.
“I thought we were unlucky not to go in ahead, but we didn’t and when you find yourself in the run we’re in, every shot for the opposition seems to go in, and that’s what’s happened today,
“But I thought we were more than worthy for the point because I thought we played really well.”
On working hard as a defensive unit
“That’s us, that’s how we want to play, that’s how we need to play – when we’re good, when we’re working as a unit and we’re together, strong and organised, that’s when we’re at our best.
“In the first-half I think we did that incredibly well, considering the form that we’re in, but I think it’s something, when you come to a place like this, you know how tough it is, everybody knows how tough it is.
“When you come and nick a point in the way we did in the last minute – I say nick a point, but we probably should’ve scored a couple more in the first-half as well, so in the end I thought it was a good point.”
On character of the group
“That will never change from us. We’ve got that embedded within the squad, we’ve got the spirit, we’re all very, very good friends and I think you see that when we come to play.
“We’ll never, ever lie down, but we’ve got players who will score goals. We’ll never, ever stop playing, stop playing hard, and luckily it’s happened today.”
On building on performance
“It’s something we need to use as a platform. It’s not a win and we need to win as soon as possible because it’s not a win, but it’s something.
“You look at the performance and the way we played, it’s a little bit different in what we’ve been doing the last few weeks and I thought we did really, really well.
“People are looking at the league and points and different things like that, but we’re not looking at anything like that, we never did last year when we were winning games and we won’t do it now because we’re looking at performances, improving and using this as a platform to build.”
