Internationals | Patricio and Neves help Portugal to victory

Ruben Neves and Rui Patricio helped Portugal to victory in their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign after they brushed aside Lithuania in Vilnius.

The pair played the full 90 minutes for their country in a game which saw Cristiano Ronaldo net four times to ease the Portuguese worries after Vytautas Andriuskevicius equalised for the hosts early on in the match.

The icing was put on the cake by William Carvalho, who scored Portugal’s fifth in added time. Neves and Patricio’s Wolves team mates Joao Moutinho and Diogo Jota were unused substitutes for Portugal, with Jota still yet to play in a competitive game for the senior side.

After being ruled out of Belgium’s opening Euro 2020 qualifying tie of the month with San Marino on Friday, Leander Dendoncker returned to the Red Devils’ line-up for their qualifying clash with Scotland.

The midfielder played the full 90 minutes of the match at Hampden Park, in which Belgium came out on top 4-0, to extend their advantage over Russia at the top of the Group I table.

Raul Jimenez, who was an unused substitute in Mexico’s friendly against the USA at the weekend, played the duration of his country’s 4-0 defeat to Argentina. Lautaro Martinez scored a hat-trick for the Argentinians, while Leandro Paredes netted from the penalty spot.

Following his full England under-21 debut on Friday night against Turkey, Morgan Gibbs-White retained his place in the starting 11 against Kosovo at Hull’s KCOM Stadium.

The 19-year-old was taken off after 60 minutes of the 2-0 win, with Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell taking Gibbs-White’s place, but the result puts the Young Lions joint top of the 2021 Euro 21 qualifying Group 3 table.

Ruben Vinagre and Pedro Neto both featured for Portugal under-21s in their country’s 2021 Euro U21 qualifying match against Gibraltar but started on the bench for the second qualifier against Belarus at the Torpedo Stadium.

The former came on at the mid-way point of a 2-0 victory over Belarus, with Portugal going top of their Group 7 table, three points clear of second-place Netherlands.
