Internationals | Gibbs-White makes first start in England U21 victory

Wolves Academy graduate Morgan Gibbs-White was handed his first start for England under-21s in their 3-2 victory over Turkey on Friday night.

The 19-year-old played 81 minutes of the side’s 2021 Euro U21 qualifying win in Turkey, after a brief cameo appearance for the team in the summer’s European championships.

Gibbs-White could made his third appearance for the under-21s when they return to the British shores and welcome Kosovo to the KCOM Stadium in Hull on Monday, kick-off 5pm.

Rui Patricio played the full 90 minutes for Portugal as they got their first win of the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.

The Wolves keeper was joined in the 4-2 win over Serbia by Joao Moutinho, who was brought off the bench with five minutes of the match remaining, while fellow senior Portuguese stars Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota were unused substitutes.

The quartet will be back in action on Tuesday night as they head to Lithuania in another Euro qualifier, which kicks off at 7.45pm.

In the Portugal development side, Pedro Neto and Ruben Vinagre both made their debut appearances for their country’s under-21 side in the 2021 Euro U21 qualifying match against Gibraltar.

Vinagre, playing at left-back, set up the second of Portugal’s four goals before forward Neto came close to scoring his first for the under-21s in a 4-0 win. The pair will be hoping to be involved once again when they head to Belarus on Tuesday, 6pm kick-off.

Leander Dendoncker was ruled out of Belgium’s Euro 2020 qualifying tie with San Marino on Friday, which ended 4-0 to the Belgians, after picking up a slight injury in training. The Wolves man is likely to return to the side for the second of their two qualifying matches this month against Scotland on Monday, kicking-off at 7.45pm.

Raul Jimenez was an unused substitute in Mexico’s 3-0 victory over USA in a friendly. Jimenez and Mexico will remain in the USA for another exhibition game against Argentina on Wednesday, with that game due to kick-off at 1am.
