Internationals | Ten Wolves players called up for their countries

The Wolves senior Portuguese quartet of Rui Patricio, Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota have all received call-ups for the side’s upcoming Euro 2020 qualifying matches.

Four of ten Wolves players to have been called up by their countries for the September international period, they were part of Portugal’s Nations League winning squad in the summer, with Jota hoping to make his debut in either of the team’s matches this week.

Portugal first face Serbia on Saturday 7th September before heading to Lithuania on Tuesday 10th September, with both games set to kick-off at 7.45pm.

In the Portugal development side, Pedro Neto and Ruben Vinagre have both received their first call-up to their country’s under-21s for the Euro U21 qualifiers. The pair are set to face a home tie against Gibraltar on Thursday 5th September, kick-off at 8.45pm, before an away trip to Belarus from 6pm on Tuesday 10th September.

Leander Dendoncker returns to the Belgium fold after being included in his country’s Euro 2020 qualifying squad during the summer, with their first match due to be against San Marino on Friday 6th September, before a home tie with Scotland on Monday 9th September, both kicking-off at 7.45pm.

Two Wolves players – Raul Jimenez and Romain Saiss – will both be in friendly action during the upcoming international period for Mexico and Morocco respectively.

Jimenez and Mexico will travel to the USA for both of their friendly fixtures, taking on USA themselves in the first on Saturday, from 1.30am, before facing Argentina on Wednesday, with that game due to kick-off at 1am.

Regularly starting as a centre-back for his country, Saiss and his Moroccan teammates will face Burkina Faso on Friday ahead of a friendly with Niger on Tuesday. Both matches will take place at the Stade de Marrakech, with 8pm kick-offs.

Finally, Morgan Gibbs-White has received another England under-21 call-up after impressing manager Aidy Boothroyd. The Young Lions will head to Turkey on Friday, 6.45pm, for the first of their Euro U21 qualifying campaign games, before welcoming Kosovo to the KCOM Stadium in Hull on Monday, kick-off 5pm.

*Matt Doherty was also selected in the 25-man Republic of Ireland roster for their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers, but Nuno confirmed the defender has withdrawn from the squad due to injury.
