Bennett relishing "tough" Europa League group

Ryan Bennett knows the difficulty of Wolves’ Europa League group, but insists he and his team mates deserve to be performing at this level of European football.

Bennett and the rest of Nuno Espirito Santo’s group watched the draw take place on Friday afternoon, as Wolves were placed in a group with Besiktas, Braga and Slovan Bratislava. Although they are three difficult places to go, Bennett is relishing the challenge ahead and believes Wolves will be competitive in the group.

On the draw

“It’s going to be tough, every team being drawn out of the hat was going to be a tough place to go.

“I’ve played at Braga in a pre-season game with Norwich and it’s a difficult place to go. I’ve never come up against Besiktas, but you’ve seen them and know it’s a hostile place to play.

“We know there’s going to be no easy games, there is none in European football these days, but we’ll be looking to put all of our things on the training pitch into games and hopefully we can progress.”

On the Europa League journey

“It’s been difficult. The Europa League started a while ago, we’ve played every Thursday since the start of the season and before that.

“To sit and watch the draw come in with all the lads was nice, we’ve got a long trip to Turkey but I think we missed some of the really long trips we could have got.

“We’ve put ourselves in the position to play at that level now and we want to go and enjoy it. We’ve got some tough games coming up within that group and we’re looking forward to it.”

On being in this situation

“For me, personally, joining the club a couple of years ago, you wouldn’t have envisaged that I’d be sat in there with some of those lads, watching the teams come in.

“It’s brilliant and a credit to all the lads, staff and the club the way we’ve gone and done it and we’re looking to continue that.”
