Wolves touch down in China

Wolves have touched down in China ahead of a week-long pre-season tour of Asia.

Nuno Espirito Santo and his squad arrived at their Shanghai base on Sunday evening and were warmly greeted by supporters based in China.

Wolves will take on Newcastle United and either Manchester City and West Ham United in the Premier League Asia Trophy on Wednesday and Saturday.

This will be the club’s first participation in the competition, in the first year where two different locations will be used to host matches, Nanjing and Shanghai.

Meanwhile, the Wolves players will also attend a number of club events ran by Fosun International, including the opening of Wolves’ first official Megastore overseas, in Shanghai.

Austin Samuels was a late addition to the group, following Ivan Cavaleiro’s move to Fulham.

Speaking after arriving in China, Nuno said: “It’s nice to be here. Fosun is next door, it’s important for us to meet with our ownership and Chairman Guo.

“Wolves is inside of a big financial group and we are delighted to be here.

“It going to be tough because we have a very short squad, we brought a lot of boys, under-18s to help us.

“We prepare ourselves, but at the same time we are in a different environment, so we have to be flexible, patient and try to do our job.

“The opposition is very good. We’re going to play against Newcastle and then we’ll see. The Asia Trophy is very important, a very good competition.”
